Based on information that some drugs are likely to be smuggled out of country in guise of apparel accessories, Chennai Customs Courier Intelligence Unit detained one parcel in a courier warehouse in Chennai city. The parcel was booked by a city based person declared to contain ribbon rolls and other apparel accessories and was destined to Australia. On examination the ribbon rolls were found to be unusually heavy and on break opening it was found to contain plastic pouches containing white crystalline powder concealed in the hollow cavity inside the ribbon rolls. Total 57 pouches recovered. The powder was tested with narcotics testing kit and it tested positive for Methaqualone. Total 6.815 kg of Methaqualone valued at Rs. 3.4 crores was seized under NDPS Act. Searches were carried out at the address furnished in the KYC documents by the consignor at the time of booking but they were found to be fake.Efforts are on to apprehend the consignor.
